Your choices, first

Your journal is private. Group check-ins and messages are visible to that challenge’s members. Public notes and receipt links are things you choose to publish. A public profile is optional. Public reflection discovery is also optional: a note appears there only when you turn on “Include in public reflections” for that copy and both the note and your profile are public. Unpublishing it or turning off discovery removes it from that feed. Private messages are visible to their two participants; messaging the host of a public challenge does not join it or expose its private conversation. AI assistance and journal backup are separate choices.

Your account and personal record

FIREBIRD uses Supabase for sign-in and database storage. Your account profile, goals, challenges and receipts may be stored on our servers, including solo challenges and receipts. The iPhone app also keeps a local record. Synchronization between devices is still being developed; do not assume every local item has a server backup.

Your journal, voice and photos

The iPhone app stores journal entries and journal photographs locally. If you enable “Back up journal text” in Settings, entry text, dates and source information also sync privately to your account. Original photographs remain on the iPhone. Turning backup off stops future sync but does not delete account copies. The web app stores journal entries in your account database. Hosts and other challenge participants do not get access to your private journal.

Help when you ask. Only what you choose.

Starting with iPhone build 72, chat, reading a photo and reflecting on your week have separate permissions. Chat includes the words you send, your goals and challenges, and recent check-in titles and dates. It does not automatically include private journal entries, check-in notes or other members’ activity. You may write optional context for future chats in Settings; FIREBIRD no longer automatically builds a lasting memory from conversations. That context is stored on this device for your account, and can be edited or cleared. Saved iPhone conversations remain on this device for your account, excluded from app-managed cloud backup and protected using iOS file protection. Opening a conversation sends nothing. When you send a new message, recent messages in that conversation are included as context; other threads are not automatically searched. You can delete a saved conversation from its list. Account deletion or clearing local data also removes these conversations. This is not a cross-device chat backup. Older unscoped inferred memory is removed when the updated app’s privacy service starts. Chat context already sent in a conversation may remain in that conversation until you close it.

For weekly reflections on iPhone and web, you review and select individual entries and check-ins before sending them, together with your reflection answers. No journal entries or check-ins are selected by default. You can save your answers without AI. The response is based on those selected inputs, may be wrong, and is saved to your journal only if you choose. It is never automatically published.

Starting with iPhone build 83, photo transcription first uses Apple’s on-device text recognition without an upload. Cloud transcription is a separate optional action and sends only the photo you choose. The web photo reader uses cloud transcription with permission. You can edit the transcription before saving. We ask for permission before sending content to Claude, the AI service provided by Anthropic, through FIREBIRD’s server. Permissions apply to your account on this device or browser. Declining leaves manual writing, saving and check-ins available. Revoke a feature’s permission in Settings → Privacy on iPhone, or photo permission in Profile → Privacy on web. Web reflections ask for permission for each selection. Turning off permissions stops future requests, not processing that has already occurred.

The AI proxy does not write request or response contents to our database or application logs. It uses your account ID for authentication and request limits; that ID and your email are not added to the provider request. Anthropic’s commercial API policy does not use inputs or outputs for model training by default. Its standard retention policy generally deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, with exceptions such as safety investigations, legal requirements or a different agreement. FIREBIRD has not verified a zero-retention agreement and does not promise zero retention. See Anthropic’s training policy and retention policy.

FIREBIRD is not an end-to-end encrypted journal service. Network requests use HTTPS and account records use database access controls; authorized service infrastructure can process stored records. Other FIREBIRD members cannot read your private journal through the app. Native journal storage and optional account backup are separate from AI permission.

Apple’s speech recognition transcribes native voice input and may use Apple’s servers. Browser dictation, where available, uses the browser’s speech service. Writing by hand in the editor does not call AI.

Health data

Health access is optional. The iPhone app reads supported activity data to suggest evidence. FIREBIRD does not bulk-upload your Health database. If you choose to include an activity in a check-in, the resulting receipt text may sync or be shared like other receipts.

Challenges and sharing

Other members of a shared challenge can see the check-ins, replies and conversation messages you post to it. These messages are stored in your account database. Spoken replies and messages are sent as text after transcription. Your skipped days are saved privately to your account and do not change anyone else’s schedule. A public receipt link is accessible to anyone with that link. If you enable your public ledger, it lists receipts that you have explicitly shared and notes you have explicitly published. A public note is a separate editable copy of your private entry. Your optional bio and city or region also appear on that page. Unpublishing a note removes it from your profile; copies already saved by other people may remain. Check the receipt before sharing sensitive details.

Hosted programs

A program host can see your submitted program evidence, progress and refund requests. They cannot see your other goals or private journal through the host interface. Program receipts are personal by default. The current fictional preview uses simulated payments, and no money moves.

Preview data is stored in an isolated session for up to two days and removed during subsequent preview cleanup. A token on your device identifies the session. We use a hashed network identifier to limit preview abuse. Please use fictional information in the demo.

When real paid programs are enabled, Stripe will handle checkout and payment details. FIREBIRD stores enrollment status and payment/refund references, not card numbers. Real sales are not currently enabled.

Account emails

We use Resend to deliver sign-in and account-verification emails. Resend processes your email address, message content and delivery status for this purpose. We do not include private journal entries in these emails. Marketing or weekly reflection emails are not automatically enabled when you create an account.

Inviting people

Contact selection is optional. We do not upload your address book. Selected email addresses and phone numbers stay in the invitation composer on your device and are passed to your mail or messaging app only when you choose that option. Email invitations use BCC. Phone invitations open separate texts to one recipient at a time; FIREBIRD does not create a group text. FIREBIRD invitations sent to members are private messages stored with your conversations. Hosts can message participants, but cannot read their private journals.

Invite requests and diagnostics

The invite form stores your name, email and optional note so we can respond about testing. We also record a limited set of product events, timestamps and counts to understand failures and usage. Journal text is not included in those event records. We also store account-level conversation request counts and estimated cost allowances to control service usage, without storing message contents in those counters.

Optional live voice

Live voice has its own permission. When you start a call, FIREBIRD sends your audio, your goals and challenges, recent check-in titles and dates, and recent text from the current chat to OpenAI through our server. It does not automatically include private journal entries. The reply you hear is an AI-generated voice. FIREBIRD does not save call audio; the transcript is saved in Chats on your device. You can mute, end the call, or use text instead. OpenAI does not use API data for training by default. Its standard abuse-monitoring retention is up to 30 days, with exceptions described in OpenAI’s data policy. We have not enabled zero data retention.

Private messages and join requests

Private messages are stored in your account database and can be read by the two people in the conversation through FIREBIRD. They are not end-to-end encrypted. Blocking stops access to the conversation for both people. A challenge creator can see requests to join their challenge and approve or decline them. Notification previews do not include private message text. Your existing notification preferences still apply.

Apple subscriptions

Apple handles subscription payment details. FIREBIRD receives signed purchase records, including transaction identifiers, product, expiration, refund or revocation status, and the account identifier used to connect a purchase to your FIREBIRD account. We use these to verify access and restore purchases; we do not receive card numbers. Test purchases are kept separate, with sandbox purchase testing limited to explicitly approved accounts. Permanent beta Pro access is a separate account entitlement and does not require a purchase.

Calendars on your iPhone

Calendar connection is optional. With your permission, FIREBIRD lists writable calendars already on your iPhone and adds only the challenge events you select. Linked event identifiers and settings stay on your device. FIREBIRD updates those events when your record syncs; edits in Calendar do not change your challenges. Your calendar provider handles syncing its events between devices. Other calendar events are not imported into FIREBIRD or sent to AI. Disconnecting, pausing or deleting a challenge does not delete calendar events; remove those separately in Calendar if needed.

Access and deletion

You can request a copy or deletion of your data at hello@firebird.life. The iPhone app has account deletion and local reset controls in Settings. Account deletion removes the account and its linked personal records from the active database, including challenges you host and the activity attached to them. Clearing this device removes local copies only; account copies may sync back. Deleting your FIREBIRD account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple account settings. Apple may retain its own transaction records under its policies. Deleting an account does not recall screenshots or copies someone else saved. Local reset and deleting the app can remove journal entries that have no server copy. If account deletion fails, contact support rather than deleting the app to troubleshoot it. Payment-record retention and deletion handling must be finalized before real paid programs launch.

Children

FIREBIRD is not directed at children under 13. School and child accounts are not part of the hosted-program pilot.
